Alexis Ramirez

I started shooting film at a young age growing up in San Antonio, documenting the hidden scenery of my childhood, trips to Mexico, and abstract movement. As time went on my love for photography waned as my participation in music demanded more time.

I moved to Austin in 1999 to form the band A Tiger Named Lovesick, then later joined The Arm… documenting experiences along the way with a small digital camera.

In the wake of both bands I started exploring different styles of music, incorporating dreamy guitar and driving synths around programmed beats. My latest project is a culmination of my time playing in shoegaze bands and my love for darker ambient sounds. This inspired a vision and a movement back into photography utilizing both digital and film format to create a visual accompaniment to the sound.

My work today is difficult to separate into music and photography as one cannot exist without the other. Both live with in the same sphere and are my way of communicating within the modern world.
